Michael James Scott
Michael James Scott (born May 24, 1981) is an American actor and singer, known for his work on the Broadway stage.
Early life
Scott was born on May 24, 1981 in Baltimore, Maryland. He played tuba in middle school, and has a BFA in Musical Theatre from Webster Conservatory.
Career
After appearing in several regional productions, Scott performed as the standby for Ben Vereen on the international tour of Fosse from 2001 to 2002. He then played Eddie on the US tour of Mamma Mia! from 2003 to 2004, and made his Broadway debut in 2005 in the chorus of All Shook Up. He also appeared off-Broadway in Here's to the Public. In 2006, after working as a swing for Tarzan on Broadway, he reprised his Mamma Mia! role in the Broadway production, leaving in 2007 to appear in the ensemble of Broadway's The Pirate Queen. In 2008 he understudied Barry Belson in the Las Vegas production of Jersey Boys and appeared in Jerry Springer: The Opera at Carnegie Hall. He returned to Broadway in 2009 as a swing and the understudy for Margaret Mead and Hud in Hair, understudying Hud and appearing in the tribe for the West End production the next year, which he was also associate choreographer of. At the end of that year he returned to Broadway as the understudy for the Macy's manager in Elf, which closed in 2011, leading him to him to play Dr. Gostwana in the original Broadway company of The Book of Mormon. He left the show in 2012 and appeared in Here's to Joe off-Broadway in 2013, before returning to Broadway as the Genie standby in Aladdin. He left the show in 2015 to play the Minstrel in Something Rotten!, which he left in early 2016. He will be seen playing the lead role of The Genie in the Australian production of Disney's musical Aladdin opening in Sydney August 2016.
Scott is a member of the band The Broadway Boys, and frequently performs in cabarets.
