Background information
Around 1200 students currently attend Mesa Verde High School. Students are offered a variety of education experiences that help promote learning and personal growth. The academic core of Mesa Verde High School's curriculum offers students the opportunity to participate in a variety of student activity programs and clubs, various sports programs, AP classes, Fine Arts programs, and career partnerships and service programs that work in connection to the community.
Mesa Verde High School's booster club gives students' parents the opportunity to contribute to Mesa Verde. Parents help run a bingo program that contributes funds for instructional equipment, coaching positions, scholarships, and a variety of special programs. Parents also are able to contribute by providing input to the School Site Plan in the School Site Council. Mesa Verde also provides real-world work experience though the Small Business Academy program. Citrus Heights Police Department partners with Mesa Verde to help grant a measure of security to the campus with a Safe Schools Resource Officer—presently Officer Ben Kema—on campus each day.
Mesa Verde has a highly active AVID program, a reading and academic skills program which serves all grade levels at the school. Mesa Verde also provides additional real world work experience (and academic credit) to junior and senior students through the Regional Occupation Program (ROP). Mesa Verde has a strong academic emphasis, and for the last four years, has increased its Academic Performance Index (API) score. This scholarly emphasis helps many graduates continue on in post-secondary and professional education.[2]
Recent developments
Mesa Verde celebrated the dedication of the new Gebhardt Gym in September 2009, with guests from the community, district, and family of Coach Gebhardt, for whom the facility is named.[3]
