Manolis Moniakis (Greek: Μανώλης Μονιάκης; born 9 November 1988) is a Greek professional footballer, currently playing as a left back, for Greek Super League club AEL.
Club career
Born in Heraklion, Moniakis began playing football for the youth sides of Ergotelis F.C. and OFI Crete.
He signed a professional contract with OFI and played for the senior side from November 2006 until December 2010, making 30 appearances in the Greek Superleague.[1] He was suspended for six months after testing positive for doping before a league match played on 8 March 2009.[2]
The 22-year-old international right-back from OFI signed with Olympiakos F.C., in January 2011 for a four-year contract, who had already loaned him to Kerkyra F.C. for six months.[3][4][5]
At the start of 2011-12 season, Moniakis returned to OFI. He stayed there till March 2015, when OFI announced that they are withdrawing immediately from the Greek Super League criticising the top-flight circuit for “unfair and uneven decisions” against the club and Moniakis is looking for the next club to continue his career.[6]
On 24 July 2015, he signed to AEL playing in the Greek Football League, for an undisclosed fee.[7] He was one of the key players, helping the club to reach the promotion to the Greek Super League.
International career
Moniakis played for the Greece Under-19 and Greece Under-21 national football teams between 2006 and 2008.[8]
