Maddahi is a ceremonial singing specialized for Shia Muslims. People who croon this style are called Maddah. Maddahs mostly sing in Ahl al-Bayt's birth and death anniversary. The theme of maddahi may be joyous or sorrowful. Most of maddahs are men but few women perform it in exclusively female gatherings. The majority of Maddahis are sung in mourning of Ahl al-Bayt particularly Mourning of Muharram in beginning of Muharram until Day of Ashura and Arba'een.
