History

State Highway 25 was authorized in 1920 from Belle Plaine to Big Lake.[3]

The section of Highway 25 between U.S. Highway 10 (near Becker) and State Highway 18 (at Brainerd) was part of State Highway 218 until 1963.

At one time, the route had continued farther north. From 1963 to 2001, Highway 25 continued north of Brainerd. This northernmost segment between State Highway 210 and Merrifield was turned back to Crow Wing County maintenance in 2001[4] and is now designated County Road 3.[5]

Highway 25 was paved south of U.S. Highway 212 by 1940, the remainder of Highway 25 south of U.S. Highway 10 was paved by 1953.

Old State Highway 218 (now Highway 25) north of U.S. Highway 10 was paved by 1961.
