ALOE Systems is an international vendor of software solutions for the telecommunications industry. The company's main focus is on softswitch solutions, session border controllers, and IP-based service platforms for VoIP service providers.
ALOE Systems' head office is located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

History

ALOE Systems is a privately owned corporation with offices in Canada and Russia. Founded in 1989, the company has been involved in software development services since 1993.

ALOE Systems started research and development in the voice over internet protocol field in 1998 and released its first VoIP product line in 2001. In the same year the company’s VoIP softswitches were successfully deployed by VoIP carriers internationally for management of VoIP traffic and intercarrier exchange.

In 2003 ALOE Systems (known as MERA Systems then) became an independent international VoIP softswitch solutions vendor. Its first product, MVTS, quickly gained popularity among telecom carriers all over the world due to rich functionality and is still used by some of them today (2012).

In 2006 the company launched a new platform for VoIP wholesale businesses, a successor to the legendary MVTS, which had special functionality for intercarrier traffic exchange management. Enhanced regularly with performance and functionality upgrades, it is the flagship product in ALOE Systems’ product line.

The company met 2008 with further increase of product deployments and expansion of the product line: a new class 4 VoIP softswitch with session border controller functionality MVTS Pro was introduced, along with a multifunctional class 5 platform RTU. These products perform collection, switching, transcoding, and billing of VoIP traffic, at the same time being responsible for processing signaling and media data streams.

In 2009 the company announced that it stopped support for the MVTS I softswitch[1] and offered special terms for migration to MVTS Pro, which replaced MVTS I in the product line.[2]

In October 2011 a session border controller from ALOE Systems was released – ALOE Transit SBC rev.1.[3]

North America is traditionally considered one of the key regions for ALOE Systems: in 2011 a jurisdictional routing engine was introduced in MVTS II to meet the needs of carriers in the U.S. and Canada. This routing engine simplifies compliance with local laws for the carriers when routing traffic and helps save funds by choosing the cheapest routes.[4]

As of 2011, the company made over 1,000 customer deployments in 84 countries worldwide, including the emerging VoIP markets of Central Asia, the Middle East, Asia-Pacific and the CIS countries.[5]

Over 350 highly qualified software developers work in ALOE Systems (November 2011).

Product Portfolio

Today ALOE Systems' product line includes the following:

MVTS II. A 4-in-1 wholesale VoIP business platform incorporates switching, routing, billing, and border control functionality. The product features a single point of system management and data input, supports SIP, H.323, and SIP-H.323 conversion.[6][7]

Advanced routing allows each carrier to set unique parameters for different customers, as well as block certain providers’ or subscribers’ groups and allow better access for others.[8] MVTS II special features include

In 2011, MVTS II system capacity was significantly enhanced: the concurrent calls rate rose to 150 000, thus raising the calls per second rate to 3 500.[9]

ALOE Transit SBC revision 1. A Session Border Controllers for transit carriers that is responsible for secure and controlled IP connections over IP network borders. The product provides data security, network interworking, and media management and is easily scalable and cost efficient. Specific architecture of the application allows setting up a geographically distributed system and implementing a variety of redundancy schemes.

MVTS Pro. A high-performance class 4 softswitch featuring multi-protocol support in the system core (SIP, SIP-T/I, H.323, MGCP) and ultra-high capacity and ease of scalability.

The product is a flexible solution that can be easily integrated into the existing network structure. It can be used by wholesale carriers for effective management of large amounts of traffic and has session border controller functionality.

RTU. A VoIP multiservice platform & a class 5 softswitch intended to be the core switching point for residential and business telephony based on an IP network and to deliver Value Added Services (VAS) to end-users.

The product is used both by service providers that provide telephony or triple play services to end-users (1) and by enterprises that build VoIP telephone network for their own use (2).
