The Lycée français de Pondichéry is a French international school Pondicherry in Puducherry, India.[1]

It is the oldest French international school on the Asian continent.[2] It is one of the most important French high schools (lycée français) outside France and the second largest in Asia after that in Hong Kong. The school serves the period from pre-primary through lycée (senior high school).[3]

The Lycée français de Pondichéry was established as the Collège Royal on 26 October 1826 by Eugène Panon, Comte Desbassayns de Richemont, then Governor-General of Pondichéry in French India, during the Bourbon Restoration.

Affiliated with the University of Rennes,[4] it is the oldest lycée outside France. Today it welcomes around 1,400 students from elementary school to baccalauréat level.

The French Institute of Pondicherry has hosted training sessions for teachers of the lycée.[5]

In 2014 the school signed a memorandum of understanding with the Future Foundation School providing for student exchanges.[6]
