Ritwik Ghatak is mainly known as a filmmaker, but, he was also a playwright, poet, and writer of short stories. Ritwik Ghatak started his creative career as a poet and a fiction writer. Then he began writing for the theatre and becamne involved with Gananatya Sangha and IPTA. Later he moved to film direction. He also wrote more than 50 essays on film. Satyajit Ray wrote that these essays "cover(ed) every possible aspect of the cinema".[1]
