Ikki Tousen is an anime TV series based on the manga by Yuji Shiozaki, published by Wani Books and serialized in the seinen manga magazine Comic GUM. The anime is produced by J.C. Staff, directed by Takashi Watanabe, series composition by Takao Yoshioka, music by Hiroshi Motokura and Project IKKI, characters by Shinya Hasegawa, and produced by Nobuhiro Osawa and Yuji Matsukura. The series revolves around an all-out turf war in the Kanto region of Japan where fighters from seven schools battle for supremacy, and the story centers on Hakufu Sonsaku, a fighter from the West who transfers to Nanyo Academy. The anime is loosely based on the Chinese novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms, and the characters in the series are based on the characters from the Three Kingdoms novel.
The series aired 13 episodes on AT-X from July 30 to October 22, 2003, with subsequent runs on TVK, Mie TV, Chiba TV, TV Saitama, and Sun Television. Seven DVD volumes were released by Media Factory between November 22, 2003 and May 25, 2004.[1][2] A DVD box set was later released on January 25, 2008, and a Blu-ray box set will be released on April 27, 2011.[3][4] The series was licensed in North America by Geneon Entertainment and Enoki Films,[5] who released the series on four DVD volumes between August 10, 2004 and March 1, 2005. A box set was later released on July 19, 2005 by Geneon. The series is now licensed by Funimation Entertainment,[6] and released a box set of the series on May 26, 2009. The series is also licensed in Australia and New Zealand by Madman Entertainment and in the United Kingdom by MVM Films.
A second season, called Ikki Tousen: Dragon Destiny (一騎当千 Dragon Destiny Ikkitōsen Doragon Desutinī), aired 12 episodes on AT-X between February 26, 2007 and May 14, 2007, with subsequent broadcasts on Chiba TV, KBS Kyoto, TV Kanagawa, Tokyo MX, Sun Television, TV Aichi, and TV Saitama. The series introduces Seito Academy's leader Gentoku Ryubi as the protagonist and focuses on Kyosho Academy's recent takeover since the Totaku incident and the changes within its leader Motoku Sousou. It also introduces an anime original item called the Dragon Jade, which is a forbidden item that is said to change a fighter's fate. Produced by ARMS, the series is directed by Koichi Ohata, series composition by Takao Yoshioka, music by Yasuharu Takanashi, characters by Rin-Sin, and produced by Osamu Koshinaka, Shinsaku Tanaka, Takuro Hatakeyama, and Yoshikazu Beniya. Six DVD volumes were released by Media Factory between July 25, 2007 and November 22, 2007.[7][8] The DVD volumes contain an original video animation called Dragon Destiny: Great Battle at the Red Cliffs Hot Springs (Dragon Destiny 赤壁温泉大決戦 Doragon Desutinī: Sekiheki Onsen Dai Kessen), featuring the female cast in a hot spring setting. A DVD box set was later released on December 22, 2009.[9] The anime is licensed in North America by Media Blasters,[10] who released the series on three DVD volumes between November 24, 2009 and April 20, 2010. A box set was later released on August 31, 2010. The anime is also licensed in Australia and New Zealand by Madman Entertainment, as with the first season.
A third season, Ikki Tousen: Great Guardians (一騎当千 Great Guardians Ikkitōsen Gurēto Gādianzu), aired 12 episodes on AT-X between June 11 and August 27, 2008, with subsequent broadcasts on Chiba TV, TV Saitama, TV Aichi, TV Kanagawa, Sun Television, and Tokyo MX. Produced by ARMS, the series is directed by Koichi Ohata, series composition by Masanao Akahoshi, music by Yasuharu Takanashi, characters by Rin Shin, and produced by Hisato Usui, Nobusaku Tanaka, Osamu Ecchu, Takuro Hatakeyama, and Yasuhiro Mikami. The series features an all-new storyline featuring Chokyo, Hakufu's younger sister and the Japanese counterpart of Xiao Qiao, introducing another Genpou Saji as an antagonist, and the return of Hosen Ryofu, a character who previously died in the first series. Six DVD compilation volumes were released by Media Factory between September 25, 2008 and February 25, 2009,[11][12] each volume containing an original video animation called Battle Tour Club: Sexy Cosplay♥Dangerous Jobs♥ (バトルツアークラブ・セクシーコスプレ♥危険なアルバイト♥). A DVD boxset was released on March 25, 2010.[13] The series was licensed by Media Blasters, as with the second season,[14] but it is now licensed by Funimation Entertainment after they withdrew the license.[15]
A fourth season of the series, called Ikki Tousen: Xtreme Xecutor (一騎当千 XTREME XECUTOR Ikkitōsen Ekustorīmu Eguzekutā), was announced.[16] Produced by TNK and ARMS, the series is directed and written by Koichi Ohata, music by Yasuharu Takanashi, characters by Rin Shin and Junji Goto, and produced by Hiromasa Minami, Hisato Usui, Keisuke Kawai, Shinsaku Tanaka, and Takuro Hatakeyama. The series introduces two new schools, Nanban High School and Ryoshu Academy, the latter of which was the original school from the one-shot pilot chapter of the manga series, and introduces Kentei, the Japanese equivalent of Emperor Xian, as an antagonist. The series aired twelve episodes on AT-X between March 26 and June 11, 2010, with subsequent broadcasts on Chiba TV, TVK, TV Saitama, Tokyo MX, TV Aichi, and Sun Television. Six DVD and Blu-ray volumes were released by Media Factory between June 25 and November 25, 2010.[17][18] The DVD/BDs contains an original video animation called Ikki Tousen: Xtreme Xecutor - A Dream's Six Views (一騎当千 XTREME XECUTOR 〜ユメ六景〜). Xtreme Xecutor is licensed in North America by Funimation Entertainment, as with the first and third seasons.[15]
The opening theme for the first season is "Drivin' Through The Night" by M.o.v.e, and two ending themes, "Let me be with you" by Shela for episodes 1-7, and Fate by Masumi Asano (the original voice of Hakufu Sonsaku) for episodes 8-13. The opening theme for Dragon Destiny is "HEART&SOUL" by Mai Kariyuki while the ending theme is Garasu no Hana (硝子の花?, "Glass Flower") by IORI. The opening theme for Great Guardians is "No x limit" by Ami, while the ending theme is "Kage: Shape of Shadow" (影~shape of shadow~) by Rio Asaba. The opening theme for Xtreme Xecutor is "Stargazer" by Yuka Masuda while the ending theme is "Endless Soul: Endless Warrior" (Endless Soul 〜終わりなき戦士 Endless Soul ~Owarinaki Senshi) by Masumi Asano and Aya Endo, the voices of Hakufu Sonsaku and Bachou Mouki, respectively.

The students are known as "Fighters", and each carry a sacred bead, or Magatama, and enclosed in it is a spirit of an ancient fighter from 1800 years ago in Chinese history. The Fighters are destined to the fates of their Magatama. Enter Hakufu Sonsaku, a big-breasted, air-headed bimbo, who joins the ranks of Nanyo Academy, alongside her cousin, Koukin. Encased in her Magatama is the spirit of a fierce warrior who conquered the lands 1800 years previous, but was killed at an early age. The Big Four of Nanyo Academy see her as a threat and wish to prevent history from repeating itself. | |||

Fighters from Rakuyo High School have been found hanging around near Nanyo Academy. Rakuyo is headed by the fierce Fighter Totaku, who has conquered a couple of the schools in Kanto. Other schools have been banding together against him. Meanwhile, while running late for school, Koukin reveals to Hakufu that he would be willing to sacrifice himself if it meant protecting her. Gakushu questions Saji over Nanyo Academy's leader, Enjyutsu, whom he has not seen in months. Gakushu feels that there is something going on that he has been kept in the dark about. Enjyutsu sees Hakufu as a threat and issues the order to Big Four member Kannei to execute her to prevent her destiny from being fulfilled. This order is given to the whole of Nanyo Academy, and results in Hakufu doing battle with Kannei and Ryomou, while Koukin fights all of the students and Saji. Will they all survive? Koukin meets Saji who invites him to see the senior leader Enjutsu, but then gets ambushed and attacked. Shimei Ryomou steals an orb called the Dragon Jade from a temple, fighting off Myousai Kakouen. She hopes to use to it save Hakufu. As Unchou Kan'u trains, she learns from her master that her Seito Academy schoolmate Gentoku Ryuubi has the potential to become a great hero, although she and schoolmate Ekitoku Chouhi perceive Ryuubi as but a bookworm who would rather read Shakespeare and romance novels, who cannot fight or swim, and who needs to be protected. Meanwhile, at Houkou Kakuka from Kyosho Academy researches the leaders of the three kingdoms (Hakufu, Sousou, and Gentoku) along with Bunwa Kaku who is now his lover. | |||

Moutoku Sousou and Genyou Kakouton fend off an assassination attempt by Yoshu Academy and Koshaji that was orchestrated by Bunwa Kaku and Houkou Kakuka in order to awaken Sousou's fighting spirit. Kaku takes Koumei Jokou, Bunken Gakushin and Shunhai Chouko to subjugate Yoshu in retaliation for the attack. Afterward, Sousou is disappointed that Kaku did not exact revenge for Kakouton's injury. Gentoku Ryuubi tries to avoid training with Ekitoku Chouhi but is ambushed by Bunsoku Ukin. Unsho Kan'u defends her while Ekitoku defends the shrine gate from more attackers from Kyosho Academy. Shimei Ryomou easily defeats a battle weary Ekitoku Chouhi. The threat of Ryomou killing Unsho Kan'u awakens Gentoku Ryuubi's dragon. Suikyou reveals that Ryomou harbors a dragon as she runs away from the encounter. Kan'u is forced to subdue Ryuubi, who has been completely possessed by her dragon, and imprison her for several days until the possession subsides. Moutoku Sousou disciplines Bunsoku Ukin for failing to defeat Kanu. Myosai Kakouen tells Houkou Kakuka she will get the Dragon Jade from Ryomou. Kakuka reveals the existence of the Dragon Jade to Chuutatsu Shibai, who was the real mastermind behind the provocation of Yoshu Academy. Kakuka also tells Bunwa Kaku about the Dragon Jade, but is murdered by Yojo Bashoku who frames Kouha Kannei for the attack. Despite a warning by Kaku that Kannei has an alibi, Sousou orders all his forces to attack Nanyo Academy. | |||

Shibai, who is now able to walk, attacks Gentoku Ryuubi but Unchou Kan'u comes to the rescue. Shibai summons Moutoku Sousou's red dragon which awakens Ryuubi's yellow dragon. Hakufu Sonsaku's blue dragon joins the battle. Shiryu Chou'un returns in time to save Nanyo's big four. |

They encounter Hakufu and the gang who are working part-time at a restaurant for an overseas battle tour. Kan'u gets upset that Hakufu and the others interrupt her chances to be intimate with Ryuubi. A blonde-haired female fighter, Chuubo Sonken, arrives to look for her sister, who turns out to be Hakufu. Ryomou tries to suppress her dragon from awakening; she has a dream of trying to catch up to Saji, while a mysterious figure watches her. | |||

Hakufu accidentally slept on the train and as a result, she is yet again insulted by her mother. After Hakufu decides to visit her sister, Koukin (as Hakufu replacement), Shimei, Kanu, Bachou, Ekitoku, Chuukou, Shikou and other fighter got ambush. | |||

The ambush takes place and Kanu falls off the boat, with Ekitoku pursuing her. The rest are captured, but Bachou and Chuukou escape, while Ekitoku pulls Kanu to shore, but Kanu is blinded and as a result of being unable to fight the two are captured due to Ekitoku's injuries. | |||

This episode finally shows how Shimei got her dragon. After remembering we see the Kanu was the cause of the dragon in Shimei's left eye and start to fight furiously. Then they show Hakufu and Bachou in a fake horse trying to find Koukin and the others. | |||

In this episode it starts off with Shimei on the ground, but in her mind walking away from herself only to see Yojo saying that she was afraid of changing her destiny. And as Shiryu show up and started to fight Kanu, while Shimei started to wonder why do fighters fight. After Shiryu may or may not give her the answer, we see Bachou, Hakufu, Shikou, Chuukou and Koukin finishing the guards all 103 of them, then Hakufu and Koukin went into the tunnel and it collapse and the cause of that was Teni. | |||
