The Libertarian Party of South Dakota is the South Dakota affiliate of the Libertarian Party. Currently, the state chair is Jon Boon McNutt.

Background
The Libertarian Party of South Dakota aims to promote Libertarian policies and support Libertarian candidates throughout the state. According to the Argus Leader, there were approximately 1,200 registered Libertarian voters in South Dakota as of July 2014.
In 2006, the South Dakota Libertarian candidates for governor and attorney general received 1 percent of the vote and 2.7 percent of the vote, respectively. In 2012, the Libertarian candidate for South Dakota public utilities commissioner received 5.7 percent of the vote. During the 2014 election cycle, the party nominated Libertarian candidates to challenge unopposed Republican candidates in three statewide races. Chad Haber, the 2014 Libertarian candidate for attorney general of South Dakota, earned 18 percent of the vote and Kurt Evans, the 2014 Libertarian candidate for South Dakota auditor, earned 20.05 percent of the vote. John English, the 2014 Libertarian candidate for South Dakota commissioner of schools and public lands, received 23.55 percent of the vote.
