Leonard G. Goss is an American book publisher, author and editor.

Education

After studies at Phoenix College, Goss earned a B.A. degree in English and philosophy from Arizona State University, a diploma in religious studies from the Tempe Conference School of Religion, an M.A. degree in religious studies/philosophy of religion from the University of Windsor, and the M.Div. degree in biblical studies and systematic theology from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.

Career

From 1998 to 2008, Goss was head of editorial at B & H Publishing Group. Before that, he led editorial efforts at Crossway Books (1994–1998), Zondervan Publishing House/HarperCollins Publishers (1985–1994), and the Evangelical Book Club (1980–1985). He began his publishing career with John Wiley & Sons (1975–1980).[1] He is owner at GoodEditors.com, a small editorial firm.

Works

Goss has worked in American Christian publishing for over three decades. He has developed and edited hundreds of books, and helped launch many writing careers in both the fiction and nonfiction fields.[2] He has written chapter contributions to anthologies. His articles on alternative religions are published in the Apologetics Study Bible[3] and If God Made the Universe, Who Made God?[4] and his faith story is published in the books Mere Christians and In Their Own Words.[5][6] He is the author of A Brief Style Guide to Good Writing for Authors and Editors and A Guide for Authors, Editors and Proofreaders in the Preparation of Manuscripts, and he is the coauthor, with Don Aycock, of Writing Religiously and The Christian Writer's Book, and together they edited Inside Religious Publishing. Their most recent book is The Little Handbook to Perfecting the Art of Christian Writing: Getting Your Foot in the Publisher’s Door . With his wife Carolyn he coauthored The Little Style Guide to Great Christian Writing and Publishing, which has become the most regularly used style guide for writers and editors in religious publishing.[7][8][9]

With Ron Birtcher, Goss is coauthor of I Am Who You Are, and with John Cionca, he is coauthor of Catching the Wind of the Spirit. Goss served as series editor for B&H Academic's "Perspectives On . . ." series of books on different approaches to important questions impacting Christians and the church. He began a similar series at Zondervan.

Personal life

Goss is a native of San Diego, California, and has been married to Carolyn Stanford Goss since 1971. As a Christian of Jewish descent, he is a messianic Jew. They have two adult children and four grandchildren.[10]
