Josef Schmidt (18 August 1893 – 28 January 1943) was a highly decorated Generalmajor in the Wehrmacht during World War II. He was also a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. Josef Schmidt was killed on 28 January 1943 in Voronezh, Russia. He was posthumously awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross on 31 January 1943 and was also promoted to Generalmajor.
