Born on January 6, 1983 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Peña-Álvarez is a world class flyweight (112 pounds).

Early and personal life

Johanna started practicing boxing at the age of 13 and turned professional at 14, always under guidance of her father and trainer Ruddy Peña.[2]

Career

Peña-Álvarez made her pro debut at the age of seventeen, on June 29, 2000, winning a 2nd round TKO over Natali Lara. She won her second pro bout, before losing a 6-round unanimous decision to Gisselle Salandy on August 8, 2000.[3] Peña-Álvarez would go 12-0-1 in her next 13 fights, before losing a 10-round decision to WIBF Flyweight Champion Regina Halmich on January 17, 2004 in Germany.[2][4]

Johanna would return to the ring on March 19, 2004, fighting to a 6-round draw with Delia Gonzalez.[5] In her next fight, Pena-Alvarez lost a 6-round unanimous decision to future WIBA Flyweight Champion Melinda Cooper.[6]

Pena-Alvarez' record is 15-3-2 with 10 KOs.
