Founded in 1918, Jit Sin High School (Malay: Sekolah Menengah Jenis Kebangsaan Jit Sin; Chinese: 日新国民型中学) is a co-educational Chinese vernacular secondary school in Bukit Mertajam, Penang.
Background
Jit Sin High School (JSHS) used to share the same compound with Jit Sin Independent High School at Aston Road. In 1992, Jit Sin High School moved to a purpose-built campus in Taman Sri Rambai. Students attend classes from Form 1 to Form 6, and they are organised into morning and afternoon sessions. Jit Sin High shares the same school anthem with Jit Sin Independent High School as well as its primary school counterparts, SJK(C) Jit Sin (A) & SJK(C) Jit Sin (B).
The school is known nationwide as a top elite school for its excellent academic results in public examinations such as Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR),[2] Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM)[3] and Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM)[4] consistently every year. The school's success is largely attributed to its merit-based admission of students from primary vernacular education. The entry requirement is set at a maximum of 9 accumulative points scored in the Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) over 7 subjects, where an A constitutes to 1 point and E is 5 points, meaning that prospective students had to score straight As, or near-straight As, whomever ranked best, so as such until the intake for that particular academic year is full.
In October 2011, Jit Sin High School was awarded the title of Cluster School of Excellence [1](Sekolah Kluster Kecemerlangan), and is the first vernacular secondary school in Penang to achieve this premier status.
Structure
The school consists of two sub-schools, divided by form level. The sub-schools are:
- Secondary school: Form 1 to Form 5
- Pre-University: Form 6 (Lower sixth and Upper Sixth)
Jit Sin High School branch campus
New branch campus at Jalan Tasek, Sungai Bakap, Seberang Perai Selatan, Pulau Pinang, which is located at the south of Bukit Mertajam is currently undergoing constructions. It is built due to physical limitations at its current location, and to cater to an ever-expanding student intake.

Developments
In 2007, the Harmonica and Choir Club and Environmental Cadets have been disbanded as a uniform body and re-categorised into clubs, following new guidelines set by the Ministry of Education.
The school has seen changes made by the 5th and current principal in order to improve the schooling atmostphere as well as the declining discipline among the students – notably the installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) surveillance cameras. Stricter regulations has also been enforced by the school disciplinary board.
Wi-Fi is available campus-wide by the IT Department in 2010, but made exclusive to the staff room.
