Imagine is an educational periodical for 7th-12th graders and published by the Center for Talented Youth (CTY) at Johns Hopkins University. It is intended to provide intellectual stimulus for students looking toward their college years. Each issue focuses on an academic theme such as engineering, social sciences, archaeology, or robotics, that a younger student might not be exposed to in the course of primary or secondary education. The magazine also features, among other things, student-written articles (making up the bulk of the magazine) about summer and extracurricular activities, reviews of selective colleges, book reviews, interviews with accomplished people, puzzles, college planning advice, and career options information. Contests for Imagine readers are held at times, with topics ranging from essay competitions to photo contests. In 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007 Imagine was awarded the Parents' Choice Gold Award for magazines.[1] The editor is Melissa Hartman of Johns Hopkins University, CTY.
The magazine is published five times each year. Issues are between 40 and 50 pages in length.
Issues Published
In five issues each academic year, students explore topics ranging from mathematics to writing to computer science. Each issue includes articles about summer programs and extracurricular activities across the country written by student participants, as well as advice on planning for college, student reviews of selective colleges, profiles of careers, book reviews, puzzles, and more. Half of each issue is devoted to a broad focus topic, showcasing activities that students can do now to pursue that interest, as well as career opportunities in the field.
Subscription
Imagine is available only by subscription (or by purchasing single issues).It may be found in a school or public library. Imagine is nonprofit and does not run ads in the magazine.However, the magazine sometimes includes information about gifted middle and high school students.

Creative Minds Competitions
Imagine invites submissions for its Creative Minds Competitions.
Imagine awards prizes in two age categories: 13 years and under, and 14–18 years. The first-place winner in each category is published in the Sept/Oct & May/June issue of Imagine. Second- and third-place winners are considered for publication in print or online. All winners will receive copies of the issue in which their work appears.
Winners are announced in the Sept/Oct issue of Imagine and on the Imagine website.
Contest Guidelines:
- Entrants must be 18 or under.
- There is no theme or topic for this competition.
- Poems must not exceed 30 lines and must be titled. Stories must not exceed 1,000 words.
- Entrants may submit up to three poems.
- Entries must include text only. Do not include photographs, illustrations, or background graphics or colors.
- Poems must be entrant’s original work. Poems that have won other contests or that have been published online or in print are not eligible.
- Save all poems in a single Microsoft Word document with your last name as the file name
