Idhayakkani (Tamil: இதயக்கனி English: The Fruit Of The Heart), is a 1975 Indian Tamil action thriller starring M. G. Ramachandran in the lead role, with Pandari Bai, R. S. Manohar and Radha Saluja among others enacting supporting roles.
The film, directed by A. Jagannathan, produced by R. M. Veerappan under his Sathiya Movies and had musical score by M. S. Viswanathan.
The film was blockbuster and highest grossing film of the year. The film ran for 150 days in theatres.[2]
Plot
The Tamil Country of the 70s...
IDHAYAKKANI is the story of a kind-hearted Mohan (MGR) whose theory of life is 'equality'.
Mohan practices equality by sharing the income of his estate with his labourers equally.
He has another passion of serving country, so that he has joined police force as an officer.
He meets a needy girl Lakshmi (Radha Saluja), and on the advice of elderly and domestic help, he permits her to stay in his house.
Toungues start wagging and Mohan decides to marry Lakshmi.
However, his happiness is short-lived.
He gets the shock of his life when he comes to know that his wife is involved in the murder of a leading scientist.
What is the truth?
Did Lakshmi really murdered the scientist or she is innocent ?
If so, then who is the culprit ?
How does Mohan finds the truth ?

Around the movie
The director A.Jaganadhan (B.A.) (26 November 1935, Tirupur - 7 October 2012, Coimbatore) started off as an assistant to T. Prakash Rao (already in MGR 's PADAGOTTI, 1964) and later worked under Pa.Neelakandhan (from 1967, with MGR 's KAAVALKAARAN) and for 12 films, most of them starring MGR.
He made his directorial debut through MANI PAYAL, in 1973.
It was MGR who inaugurated the first show of MANI PAYAL at Chennai's then Midland theatre.
Two years later, it was the MGR film IDHAYAKKANI (under the famous Sathiya Movies production, the sixth and the last one of the series, with MGR) that turned to be the biggest break of his career.
The first ones were, (under the Sathiya Movies production) : (DHEIVA THAAI on 18 July 1964), (NAAN AANAIYTTAL on 4 February 1966), (KAAVALKAARAN on 7 September 1967), (KANNAN EN KADHALAN on 25 April 1968), (RICKSHAWKARAN on 29 May 1971) and well - heard (IDHAYAKKANI on 22 August 1975).
The scenes of fight of this MGR's movie were directed by the veteran stunt master N. Shankar[12]
It was for the great classic singer, "Isaimani" Sirkazhi Govindarajan, the last song of a soundtrack for MGR's movie.
The film is known for political dialogues and songs.
In 2009 for the composition of the soundtrack of the movie of the Tamil star, the actor Vijayakanth, MARIYADHAI, the music director Vijay Antony remixed the title "Inbame Undhan Per".
This piece was interpreted by the couple Udit Narayan and Mahathi accompanied with Puram.
The actor Chanmugham Sundharam[13] who plays in the last MGR, MADHURAIYAI MEETTA SUNDHARAPANDIYAN, is present also in IDHAYAKKANI.
