Hetero Drugs Limited is an Indian Pharmaceutical Company established in the year 1993. Hetero Drugs Limited founded by Dr. B. Parthasaradhi Reddy, ., a scientist and expert in chemistry.[1]
Hetero has revenues of approximately $1.9 billion in the 2015 fiscal year.[2] Hetero group employs over 15,000 people. Hetero is a strong player in API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients) and finished dosages [3] and its manufacturing plants have U.S. Food and Drug Administration approvals and World Health Organization approvals. It has marketing presence in over 100 countries.[4]
Hetero Drugs Limited is the parent company in the Hetero group of companies and other companies which are part of the group are Hetero Labs, Hetero Research Foundation, Genx Laboratories and also foreign subsidiaries such as Camber pharma Inc., in USA and Richmond Labs in Argentina, etc., Also now the group has its way into wind power business with an aim to establish 1000 Megawatts by 2017.
They were awarded license to make generic oseltamivir - Tamiflu. Swiss firm Roche has licensed Hetero Drugs Limited in 2005[5] to make a generic version of its anti-flu treatment for India and other developing countries.
Today, oseltamivir (Tamiflu) is also indicated for A[H1N1] virus also popularly known as swine flu.
In 2009, as the swine flu outbreak was spreading across the globe and various health organizations and government agencies were piling up stocks of oseltamivir as precautionary measure, Hetero helped many countries including India[6] by supplying the generic oseltamivir under its brand name fluvir.
Hetero has delivered 10 million doses of generic Tamiflu to the Indian government in May 2009[7] and shipped about 80 million doses to over 60 countries[8]
Hetero has received its second order from Indian government to supply another 10 million doses of generic Tamiflu in August 2009.[9]
Hetero makes affordable antiretroviral drugs so that developing nations can fight against HIV. It has supplied antiretroviral drugs to millions of patients across 125 countries.[10]
Hetero also produces affordable hepatitis C antivirals such as Sofovir (sofosbuvir) and Ledifos (a fixed-dose combination of sofosbuvir and ledipasvir).
