Henrik Urdal (born 1972) is a political scientist who obtained his PhD at the University of Oslo in 2007. Urdal is a Research Professor at the Peace Research Institute Oslo, where he was affiliated with the Centre for the Study of Civil War. Since October 2010, he has been the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Peace Research.
Urdal has held research fellowships at East West Center (Honolulu, Hawaii; 2005-2006) and at the Kennedy School of Government (Harvard University; 2011–12). He has previously worked for the Office of the Prosecutor at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (1999).
His research addresses the relationship between demography, environment, and politics, particularly focusing on how population growth, "youth bulges", and climate change affect violent conflict.
