Henriette Poincaré (née Henriette Adeline Benucci, May 8, 1858 – May 19, 1943 (aged 85)) was the wife of French President Raymond Poincaré. She was born in Passy, France.[1]
She was married twice before her marriage to Poincaré. Her first marriage ended in divorce in 1890; her second marriage ended with her husband's death in 1892.[1]
From 1892, she hosted a literary salon for intellectuals in Paris. She had a relationship with Poincaré from 1901. She married Poincaré in a civil ceremony in Paris on August 17, 1904.[1] They had a church ceremony shortly after his election to the presidency in 1913. She was exposed to some slander because of her previous marriages. During the World War I, she participated in war work, such as making gifts for soldiers and war children. She also accompanied her spouse to the war areas. In 1917, a scandal occurred, when a runaway gorilla broke in to the presidential garden and chased her up a tree.
