Have a Nice Day is the ninth studio album by American rock band Bon Jovi, released on September 20, 2005. Produced by John Shanks, the album was recorded at Sanctuary Sound II in New Jersey, and Ocean Way Recording in Hollywood, California.
Have A Nice Day was originally recorded in the summer of 2004 and planned for release in early 2005. However, due to misunderstandings between the band and its record company, the album was delayed. The band wanted to write and record more songs, remove others from the original track list, and in the process, altered existing album tracks.
Have A Nice Day ranked number one in its debut, in 15 countries. The album also ranked No.2 in both the US and UK. In the US, it sold over 202,000 copies in the first week,[6] making it Bon Jovi's best first-week sales in the band's history at that time. The album was certified platinum by the RIAA.[7]
The album produced the hit singles "Have a Nice Day" and "Who Says You Can't Go Home". Have a Nice Day has mostly received mixed reviews by music critics. It was commonly commented that Jon Bon Jovi was "stretching" his lyrical abilities.[1][3]
Background
"The title, Have A Nice Day was the first and last it occurred to me," said Jon Bon Jovi. The truth is that, originally, the idea was stolen from frequent conversations heard by Jon Bon Jovi between his wife (the sales of Warner) and Merlina scheduller Schilliro (who coined this phrase universally used today). The song sets the tone for the rest of the album - there are twelve songs about coping with adversity and how to take risks to enjoy what the world has to offer. In other words, twelve songs centered on a theme that in the course of a stellar career, Bon Jovi had made its own theme. Have a Nice Day is a defiant response to the disappointment that the singer suffered after the presidential elections in 2004. He had campaigned with Democratic candidate John Kerry.
Lead guitarist Richie Sambora for the rawness of the sound of songs like "Have a Nice Day", "Last Man Standing" and "I Am" is a celebration of another recent social movement.
Composition and production
Helping the band to achieve its goal in the study was John Shanks, who won a Grammy for "Producer of the Year" in 2004. "He deserves that award, it's brilliant", said Bon Jovi.
But then Jon Bon Jovi changed his mind. The composition of the album had been so easy, that when he was almost ready to give his stamp album later this year, the singer began to worry that maybe it was all too fast. Therefore, wrote four new songs - "Novocaine," "Last Cigarette", "Story Of My Life" and "Wildflower" - and changed some lyrics of some others. For example, "Bells Of Freedom".
Now the song reminds a little of "Chimes Of Freedom" by Bob Dylan, in the title and insists that "the sun still shines on those who believe". Now the song is exactly what he wanted it to be.
Dylan was also the inspiration for the hero of scathing anthem "Last Man Standing" - an attraction carnival that represents the last link with the idea that rock and roll is not just to entertain people, but to change their lives.
