Harvey Manger-Weil is an American businessman and entrepreneur from New York City.[3] He is best known for his SAT tutoring business, The College Wizard, in which his stated goal is to help prospective college students earn better SAT scores.[2] He has appeared in numerous publications, including Entrepreneur Magazine[3] and books like Small Business Management[4] and Get Rich Click![5]
Early Life and Education
Manger-Weil attended Dartmouth College in the 1970s and graduated with a BA in philosophy in 1980.[1] He began tutoring students for the SATs as an undergraduate at Dartmouth.[6] He later became an alumni interviewer and enrollment director for his alma mater.[2][4] At one point in time, Manger-Weil was also a street musician in New York City.[5]
The College Wizard
After having worked closely with the SAT format for 30 years, Manger-Weil founded The College Wizard in 2010.[2] He tutors clients one-on-one often through Skype from his home base in New York City.[2] Manger-Weil claims to have a system of "7 cardinal rules" that can ensure a perfect score of 2400 on the SAT. He also guarantees noticeable increases in test scores among his clients.[1] His course can take as little as 5 hours,[6] but can go on longer until the client is satisfied with their SAT scores.[1] Manger-Weil charges one flat fee for his services and also provides advice and marketing for gaining entry into the best colleges.[1]
Other Entrepreneurial Ventures
Manger-Weil has engaged in several other entrepreneurial ventures and is heavily involved in the "Solopreneur" movement.[2][5] In 2003, he started a consulting firm geared toward helping people start their own businesses.[5] He also recently teamed up with fellow Solopreneur, Bruce Judson, in a consulting firm called "Your Personal Action Plan" aimed at solo businesspeople on the internet.[2][4] In the book, Get Rich Click!, Marc Ostrofsky details how Manger-Weil helped earn a second home through effective advertising with Google Ads for his online businesses.[5]
