Hang Tuah Stadium or Kubu Stadium (Malay: Stadium Hang Tuah) is a multi-use stadium in Malacca, Malaysia. The Stadium capacity is 15,000 with 1,000 seating capacity at a particular time.[1] It is currently used mostly for football matches and serves as the second home stadium to Melaka United.[2] The stadium is now the homeground for Frenz United Football Club in Malacca.
History
Hang Tuah Stadium is the oldest stadium in the state of Malacca. It was formerly known as the Fortress Stadium and was officially opened in 1954 by The Honourable Mr. G.E.C Wisdom. C.M.G. , which at that time was the President Commissioner of Malacca, President of the Municipal Council, and President of Malacca Stadium. At that time the stadium is under the management of Malacca Stadium Committee. On 31 August 2001, the name was eventually changed to Hang Tuah Stadium. The launching ceremony was made by His Excellency Syed Ahmad Syed Mahmud Shahabuddin, Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Malacca. Hang Tuah Stadium is managed by Historic Malacca City Council (MBMB) until 1 June 2005 prior to submission to the Malacca Stadium Corporation.[3]
The stadium was renovated in 2012 to be just a recreational use when most of the older seating stand was destroyed in order to create an open space to promote "green area" in Malacca City centre where common people can go and have a recreational activity with their family. [4] The stadium was once again renovated in 2015 which costing RM3 million when Frenz United collaborated with local government to open their football academy in Malacca where they will be using the stadium as their homeground.[5][6][7]
