The Hamilton Historic District is located in Cedarburg, Wisconsin. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.[1]

History

The area was settled by Irish immigrants in the early 1840s and was originally named New Dublin.[2] It was renamed in 1847 after William S. Hamilton, a member of the legislature of the Wisconsin Territory and son of Alexander Hamilton, the first U.S. Secretary of Treasury. Soon after a post office and several business were opened in Hamilton. The area continued to prosper until a railroad was built in near-by Cedarburg in 1870. Eventually, Hamilton itself became part of Cedarburg. In 1974, Hamilton was designated a Historic Site by the Wisconsin State Historical Society.

The Concordia Mill is located within the district.
