In 1929, he was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as the Labor member for Calare, defeating Nationalist minister Sir Neville Howse. He held the seat until Labor's landslide defeat in 1931, when he was defeated by Harold Thorby of the Country Party. He returned to farming and died in 1956.[1]
