Frederico Rodrigues Santos or simply Fred (born 5 March 1993) is a Brazilian footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder for Shakhtar Donetsk.[1]
Shakhtar Donetsk
On June 26, 2013 Fred signed for Ukrainian league club Shakhtar Donetsk in a deal worth €15M.[2] He scored 2 goals in the first official game for Shakhtar at the Ukrainian Super Cup in 2013, helping them win 3–1.[3] During the Ukrainian crisis, Fred was amongst six Shakhtar Donetsk players who refused to return to Donetsk in July 2014 following a pre-season friendly against Olympique Lyonnais in France.[4]
International career
Due to the injury to Luiz Gustavo, Fred was called up to Brazil's squad for the 2015 Copa América in Chile,[5] starting in their final two Group C matches as they reached the quarter-finals.
Doping
Fred tested positive for the diuretic hydrochlorothiazide in a sample collected at the 2015 Copa América.[6]
