Fortid (English: Past) is a Norwegian historical journal run and edited by the history students at the University of Oslo. The journal was established in 2004, and has since its foundation been publishing quarterly.[1] Fortid publishes academic essays and book reviews on all aspects of history. Fortid is part of Tidsskriftforeningen and is distributed by Interpress. In 2006, the journal won the University of Oslo's Best student-edited publication-award,[2] and the reception among both students,[3] historians[4] and the wider public[5] has been positive.
The authors are usually Norwegian and Nordic master students and professors, but the board of editors also strive to present scolars from abroad. Among the contributors are: Jörn Rüsen, Erik S. Reinert, Erling Sandmo, Øystein Sørensen, Einar Már Guðmundsson, Hans Olav Lahlum, Gabriele Clemens, Øystein Rian, Hans Fredrik Dahl, Knut Kjeldstadli, Iver B. Neumann, Hayden White and Peter Burke.
