The FilmArtFestival Mecklenburg-Pomerania in Schwerin (German: filmkunstfest Mecklenburg-Vorpommern), founded in 1991 – just after the fall of the wall – is today one of East Germany's largest film festivals with more than 17,000 visitors. It has a competition for feature film, documentary film and short film to be produced or co-produced in Germany, Austria or Switzerland. The main prize is the Flying Ox (German: Fliegender Ochse), a hint to the armorial bearings of the State of Mecklenburg, the Taurus. The main prize is endowed with 10.000 € by the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture Mecklenburg-Pomerania. The Findling Award is by the umbrella organization of the art house cinemas, cultural cinemas and film clubs, the Verband für Filmkommunikation.
The festival takes place usually in the first week of May.
