Fatima Antonio Baquiran (born March 8, 1971)[1] is a Filipino painter best known for her works that features a floral still life using an abundant range of colors using the impasto impressionistic style.[1][2]
Early life
Born from a family of artists, Baquiran is the daughter of renowned painters Angelito Antonio and Norma Belleza and sister to Emil Antonio and well-known contemporary artist, Marcel Antonio.[2] She took up Fine Arts major in Interior Design at the University of Santo Tomas,[1] but later shifted to Painting and has since been making it as her full-time career.[2]
Works
Most of Baquiran’s works are still life, particularly a bouquet of flowers in a jar or vase placed on a table with different objects such as tabletops, windows, and blankets. She is in fact inspired by her mother, Norma Belleza’s, green thumb.[3]
Her style is similar to and thus inspired by her favorite European artists, Claude Monet and Rembrandt.[1] Her flowers and objects are rendered with vibrant colors led by her unique blend of warms and cools. Baquiran, unlike other artists who use impasto impressionistic style, uses mostly acrylic paints to make her paintings.[4]
