FC Tsarsko Selo Sofia (Bulgarian: ФК Царско Село София) is a Bulgarian football club, currently competing in Bulgaria's 2nd division, the Second League. Home matches are played at the new Tsarsko Selo Sports Complex in Sofia.

History

2015–2016: Foundation

In the summer of 2015 the ex boss of CSKA Sofia Stoyne Manolov started new academy called Football Academy Tsarsko Selo with getting kids born from 2002 to 2010.[1] Team registered and a man's team in A RFG Sofia South with CSKA Sofia captain and legend Todor Yanchev as manager with the ambition team to promote to V Group in the first season.[2] On 12 November 2015 Manolov announced that the team will corraborate with the Spanish La Liga team Málaga CF.[3] In the end of December 2015 Todor Yanchev take over Sofia 2010, who was bough by Manolev. Sofia 2010 merged with Tsarsko Selo into Tsarsko Selo Sofia in 2016.[4][5]

2016–present: Professional leagues

On 28 July 2016 the team was accepted in the newly created Bulgarian Second Professional League.[6] They finished their first match against Botev Galabovo with a draw.[7] In their first match for the Bulgarian Cup they played against Levski Sofia. The match was played on 22 September 2016 at Lokomotiv Stadium won by Levski by 2:0.[8] After 2 big loses, Yanchev step down from the manager post and on 29 October 2016 Nikola Spasov was announced as the new manager of the team.[9]

Team main kit is red and white. Away kits are black and red. From 2016 main kit is all red and the reserve ones are all white.

Foreign players

Up to five non-EU nationals can be registered and given a squad number for the first team in the First League and Second League however only three can be used during a match day. Those non-EU nationals with European ancestry can claim citizenship from the nation their ancestors came from. If a player does not have European ancestry he can claim Bulgarian citizenship after playing in Bulgaria for 5 years.
