"Exist" is a single by electronic music artist OVERWERK. Released on June 23, 2014, the song also had "Exist (Club Mix)" released as part of a two-song EP package. OVERWERK, also a graphic designer, created the album cover.

The single was largely well received. Wrote Vibe in June 2014, "Overwerk has the rare ability to blend sick electro with string arrangements and soundscapes that are fit to score an epic movie, making ['Exist'] both emotionally cinematic and extremely dance-inducing in one."[1]

Production

In June 2014 OVERWERK announced he would be undertaking his first American tour in July,[2] having up to that point only traveled Canada and much of Europe.[3] At the same time he announced a new single,[4][5] and "Exist" was released on June 24, 2014 on the record label Fabrik.[6] The track was packaged as part of a two-track EP which featured both an original mix and an extended club mix.[7] OVERWERK had originally thought of the concept for "Exist" as a music video, but as of July 2014 the video was still pending, with Overwerk stating that "hopefully the video will get people thinking about things they don’t usually consider."[8]

Both versions of the single were largely well received. BeatsMedia gave "Exist" a perfect 10/10 score,[9] and Vibe named the track one of their "Top 10 Dance Music Releases Of The Week," calling it a "sonic masterpiece."[1] Dancing Astronaut wrote that "Exist" combines "string arrangements with pulverizing electro."[10] EDM Sauce described the first half of the song as a "slow but steady building symphony of emotional electronic stylings. As the build reaches a maximum tension the song drops into Overwerk’s brilliant sound design."[11]

Recipitation described the original mix of the single as being "more in line with his electrifying debut album, The Nth°," stating the song had more done with "flowing chord progression and dynamics" than his other recent work. The review further described the song as "crunchy electro house and even complextro."[12] Dirty Electro Sounds reviewed the club mix in particular, praising the composition and structure, which "is sensational and paints a vivid picture." Also, the review stated that the song "rivals the complexities in production value we usually hear from the great Wolfgang Gartner," and praised the song's "swell and roller-coaster of emotion."[13] DJZ also praised the song's emotional buildup.[5]
