Emberiza is a genus of passerine birds of the bunting family Emberizidae. Created by Carl Linnaeus in his epic 1758 treatise, 10th edition of Systema Naturae,[1] the genus contains 41 extant and one extinct species.

The genus name Emberiza is from Old German Embritz, a bunting.[2] The origin of English "bunting" is unknown.[3]
