Egypt competed at the 1996 Summer Paralympics in Atlanta, United States. They sent 31 sportspeople, who won 30 total medals, 8 gold, 11 silver and 11 bronze. They participated in several sports including powerlifting.

Team

Egypt had a 31 athlete, 26 men and 5 women, strong delegation in Atlanta.[1] The team included powerlifters Ahmed Gomaa Mohamed Ahmed and Metwalli Mathana.[2][3]

Medals

Egypt finished the Atlanta Games with 8 gold, 11 silver and 11 bronze for 30 total medals.[2][4] Medalists included gold by powerlifter Ahmed Gomaa Mohamed Ahmed.[3]

Powerlifting

The country won 1 gold, 4 silver and 1 bronze medal in powerlifting in Atlanta.[5] Metwalli Mathana made his Paralympic debut at these Games.[2] Ahmed Gomaa Mohamed Ahmed participated in his second Games in Atlanta. While he had competed at -52kg in Barcelona, he went up to -56kg for these Games. He left Atlanta having won gold and set a world record.[3]
