Ecwid (/ˈɛkwɪd/) is an e-commerce platform enabling individuals and businesses to create online store or add those to existing websites.[1][2]

History

Ruslan Fazlyev founded Ecwid in September 2009.[3] Prior to the creation of Ecwid, Fazlyev founded X-Cart. As of June 2016, Ecwid reports more than a million users in more than 175 countries.[4][5][6] The site is available in 45 languages including English, Russian, French, Spanish, and Portuguese.[7]

On December 14, 2011, Ecwid announced acquisition of $1.5M in Series A funding. The initial venture funding came from Runa Capital and led to the opening of its US office.[8]

On May 28, 2014, Ecwid announced acquisition of $5 million in Series B funding. Ecwid plans on investing in product development as well as adding to its partner channel.[9][10]

Product

As a SaaS based platform, Ecwid can add online stores to any existing websites.[11] However, Ecwid has been criticized for not being an end-to-end CMS platform.[12][13] Ecwid has focused on mobile commerce with the creation of ShopApp.[14][15]

Ecwid’s shopping cart is priced on a freemium model. The premium plans include Venture, Business, and Unlimited.[16][17]

Partnerships

In January 2013, Facebook platform, Payvement, announced shutdown and transition of 200,000 merchants to Ecwid. The acquisition of Payvement's merchants confirmed Ecwid as Facebook store builder with the most monthly active users.[18] In June 2013, Wix.com integrated Ecwid’s store builder application for their 35 million users.[19] In July 2013, website maker Webydo formed a partnership with Ecwid.[20] In February 2014, WordPress.com partnered with Ecwid to launch an integrated e-commerce tool for online storefronts.[21]

In July 2014, Endurance International Group announced the offering of Ecwid’s e-commerce solution for its customers.[22] In January 2015, Ecwid introduced eBay integration that simplified export of goods to auctions.[23] Later in 2015 Ecwid integrated with LiveChat to provide their users ability to "improve customer service and increase online sales and conversion".[24]
