Donavan Tate (born September 27, 1990) is an American minor league baseball player who is a free agent. He was drafted 3rd overall by the San Diego Padres in the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft.
Career
Tate attended Cartersville High School in Cartersville, Georgia. He was drafted by the Padres third overall in the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft.[1][2] Tate committed to play baseball and football at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, but chose instead to sign with the Padres for a bonus of $6.7 million.[3] His professional career has been limited by injuries and treatment for substance abuse.[4][5]
Personal
Tate is the son of former NFL tailback Lars Tate.[6]
