Donald "Don" Close is a former Coal miner, and professional rugby league footballer of the 1960s, playing at representative level for Great Britain, and at club level for Huddersfield, as a Hooker, i.e. number 9, during the era of contested scrums.

Playing career

International honours

Don Close won a cap for Great Britain while at Huddersfield in 1967 against France.[1]

Challenge Cup final appearances

Don Close played Hooker in Huddersfield's 6-12 defeat by Wakefield Trinity in the 1962 Challenge Cup final during the 1961–62 seasonat Wembley Stadium on Saturday 12 May 1962.[2]

County Cup final appearances

Don Close played Hooker in Huddersfield's 10-16 defeat by Wakefield Trinity in the 1960 Yorkshire Cup final during the 1960–61 season at Headingley Stadium, Leeds on Saturday 29 October 1960.
