DeAndre Ayton (born July 23, 1998) is a Bahamian basketball player. He is a consensus 5-star prospect, and one of the top rated basketball players in the class of 2017. He has signed a letter of intent to play college basketball at University of Arizona.

High school Career

Ayton was born in the Bahamas and moved to San Diego, California in the United States.[1] In San Diego he attended Balboa City School before transferring to Hillcrest Academy in Phoenix, Arizona prior to his junior year.[2][3][4]

Representing the World Select team, he saw 26:36 minutes of action at the 2016 Nike Hoop Summit, chipping in with eight points to go along with seven rebounds.[5]

Recruiting

Ayton is considered the top player in the 2017 recruiting class by Scout.com, Rivals.com and ESPN.[6][7][8] In 2015 he was ranked by Scout as the top prospect in all of high school in their "Ultimate 100" list.[9]

Ayton announced his verbal commitment on Septhember 6, 2016. He had narrowed his choices between three schools: Arizona, Kansas and Kentucky. On the eve of the announcement, Kansas was believed to be the heavy favorite to land Ayton. But on ESPN he made his surprising verbal commitment to play for the Arizona Wildcats.[10][11][12]
