Damian William Jones (born June 30, 1995) is an American professional basketball player for the Santa Cruz Warriors of the NBA Development League, on assignment from the Golden State Warriors of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for Vanderbilt.
High school career
Jones attended Scotlandville Magnet High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.[1] He was rated by Rivals.com as a four-star recruit and committed to Vanderbilt University.[2][3]
College career
In three seasons at Vanderbilt Commodores men's basketball, Jones averaged 13.3 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.69 blocks and 27.2 minutes in 99 games, garnering first-team All-SEC honors as both a sophomore and junior. Jones hit 56.6 percent from the field during his collegiate career, the third-best mark in Vanderbilt history, while finishing second on the school's all-time blocks list (167). As a junior in 2015–16, Jones averaged 13.9 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.64 blocks in 33 games, helping the Commodores to their first NCAA Tournament berth since 2011–12.[4]
On April 14, 2016, Jones declared for the NBA draft, forgoing his final year of college eligibility.[5]
Professional career
Golden State Warriors (2016–present)
While working out with the Orlando Magic in the lead up to the draft, Jones suffered a torn pectoral muscle in his right arm, which required surgery.[6] Despite this, Jones was selected by the Golden State Warriors with the 30th overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft.[7] On July 13, 2016, he signed his rookie scale contract with the Warriors.[4] After sitting out the first month of the NBA season, Jones was assigned to the Santa Cruz Warriors of the NBA Development League on November 21 to finish his injury rehabilitation.[8][9] Four days later, he made his professional debut in a 100–93 loss to the Sioux Falls Skyforce, recording two points, seven rebounds, two assists and one block in 22 minutes.[10] On November 28, he was recalled by Golden State[11] and two days later he was reassigned to Santa Cruz.[12]
