Description
In accordance with Belarusian mythology Damavik has a wife - Damavukha. In Belarusian folklore, Damavik and Damavukha are usually described as an old man and an old woman. Very often Damaviks look like the owner of the house, where Damaviks live.[2]
Mode of life
As a rule, Damavik and Damavukha live either under the traditional Belarusian masonry stove (or behind it). Damaviks are considered to guard the house and property, take care of the household, keep in fire and keep the house. Damaviks’ existence usually stays unnoticed by people, but these creatures eat and drink, feel joy and sorrow just like people do.
The house is so clean, that the floors are even shining. In the furnace pancakes with cottage cheese are cooked. Damavik is considered to guard the house and property, takes care of the household, keeps in fire and keeps the house.[3]
