Christiansburg High School is located at 100 Independence Blvd. in Christiansburg, Virginia in the County of Montgomery and is located just minutes from Virginia Tech and Radford University. The school opened in 1906 and had its first graduating class of three students in 1909. The school was named for the town in which it was built.
The town of Christiansburg, the county seat of Montgomery County incorporated November 10, 1792 and was named after Colonel William Christian, one of the first justices.
Colonel William Christian studied law with Patrick Henry and courted and married Henry's sister, Ann.
Athletic teams are known as the Blue Demons and the school colors are blue and gold.
The school also is a part of the region that sends students to SWVGS (Southwest Virginia Governor's School) in Pulaski County.

Fine arts
The Christiansburg Blue Demon marching band and the symphonic band received superiors at the festivals, making the band a Virginia State Honor Band.
All three choral groups received superior ratings as well, making CHS a Virginia Blue Ribbon school.
Musicals produced by CHS include, but are not limited to: Footloose, Little Shop of Horrors, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Godspell, The Last Five Years, Forever Plaid, Seussical, Breaking Up Is Hard to Do, Beauty and the Beast, Ragtime, Just So, The Civil War, Seussical the Musical and Tarzan the musical.
Academic Competition
Mountain Academic Competition Conference
Mountain Academic Competition Conference (MACC) is a high school quiz bowl league of the Academic Competition for Excellence. The MACC team consists of teams including math, English, science, social studies, and all-around. The math team made it to semifinals of the eastern division MACC tournament and finished third in their division for the season. The English team finished 1st for the season and 1st at the tournament, making them eligible to go to the Super MACC tournament. At Super MACC, they lost to Carrol County High School in the semi-finals; Carrol County ended up winning the Super MACC tournament. The social studies and science teams made it to semifinals, and the all-around team did not advance to semifinals. The science team finished 4th for the season, the social studies team 3rd, and the all-around team 4th.
Scholastic Bowl
Christiansburg won the state championship in scholastic bowl in 2011, and placed as runner-up in 2012 to rival Cave Spring. Christiansburg's academic team placed 21st in the nation at the NAQT HSNCT tournament in 2012.
Athletics
The Blue Demons compete in the River Ridge District, which is one of the strongest AA districts in Virginia.
Basketball
Christiansburg Blue Demon Boys' Basketball team completed the 2009-2010 season with an overall record of 12-10. They also competed for the first time in the Regional Playoffs since 1996. In 2010-2011, the Christiansburg Blue Demons boys' basketball finished the regular season undefeated, and advanced to the Virginia High School League (VHSL) state semi-final game, losing to Potomac Falls. The 2011-2012 Blue Demon boys' basketball team finished the regular season with a 20-2 record, and won both the River Ridge and Region IV titles before advancing to the state AA, Division 4 championship game in Richmond. There, Christiansburg defeated Grafton, 70-69 in overtime, to win the school's first ever state basketball championship.
Wrestling
The Christiansburg Blue Demons have won 15 (2016)[5] straight state titles in wrestling. This stands as the record for longest state championship winning streak in VHSL athletic history.
Cross country
1995: The 1995 boys' team entered the AA State Championships at Great Meadow as slight favorites over Western Albemarle High School. The boys came away with a 44-point win for their second consecutive team championship. Led by senior Justin Mosby's 3rd-place finish, the team placed four runners inside the top nine finishers. Those included Matt Nolan in 4th, Michael Lee in 8th, and Robby Rakes in 9th. Greg Turpin was fifth man finishing 69th to complete the team total of 72 points. Season highlights included Mosby winning the District and Region titles as well as being named Timesland Runner of the Year by The Roanoke Times, as he defeated 800 of the 812 runners he competed against all year. This year's boys' team also won New River District and Region IV team titles for the seventh consecutive season.
1994: For the first time ever, the State Championships were held at Great Meadow Course in Northern Virginia. The 1994 team responded by capturing its first title after two years as runner-up. With Spotswood High School individuals finishing one-two, the pressure was on and the Blue Demons responded with five runners finishing inside the top twenty to enjoy a 30-point team victory with a low score of 56 points. Freshman Matt Nolan, took the lead just after the one-mile point, finished an impressive 5th overall, joining Justin Mosby 13th to earn All-State honors. Kevin Nolan just missed out on All State honors that year placing 16th. He showed his senior leadership by never giving up. Kevin battling back after leading at the 1 mile point had another runner "spike" his lower calf and pull his shoe off. He stopped and went back for his shoe, losing precious time, and resumed the race. Season highlights included winning the New River District and Region IV crowns for the sixth year in a row. After winning District in course record pace and winning the regional individual crown with an impressive cushion Kevin Nolan was named Timesland Runner of the Year by the Roanoke Times and World News. In October, the boys were ranked 18th in the nation and 3rd in the south by The Harrier magazine.
1991: Led by senior Brian Eigel's second consecutive individual title, the 1991 team of overachievers won their third consecutive team win. Eigel capped a remarkable career as he was again named Timesland Runner of the Year by The Roanoke Times and World News. He also was impressive defending his Region IV and New River District individual titles. Junior Greg Harman joined Eigel with a 12th-place effort to also earn All-State honors. This would be Head Coach Jeff Custer's third consecutive team championship and his third season as the Timesland Coach of the Year. Team highlights also include another New River District and Region IV title.
1990: This year's team captured its second consecutive team championship by easily scoring a low score of 38 points placing four runners inside the top 10 finishers. Brian Eigel joined only Robbie Turner (1985) as an individual State Champion in cross country. Joining Eigel with All-State awards were Troy Long in 3rd, Chris Rutledge in 8th, and Chris Sutphin in 10th. These 38 points were the sixth lowest total for a boys' team in AA history. Coach Jeff Custer won his second straight Timesland Coach of the Year award given annually by The Roanoke Times and World News. This team also easily won New River District and Region IV team titles. Brian Eigel was awarded Timesland Runner of the Year as well.
1989: This year marked the first State Championship won by any team in any sport at Christiansburg High School. The 1989 boys won the team title scoring just 36 points, the fifth lowest total ever. Sophomore Brian Eigel lost a close battle with Blacksburg's Lee Cross to finish second overall. Eigel was followed by junior Troy Long in 5th and Harley Johnson in 6th to earn All-State honors. The team defeated defending State Champion Blacksburg by capturing the New River District and Region IV titles as well. Head Coach Jeff Custer, in only his second year at the helm, turned the corner with a program that would go on to dominate State Meet results in the early 1990s. He was named Timesland Coach of the Year by the Roanoke Times and World News.
Confederate Flag Protest
On September 17, 2015 at approximately 7:45 A.M. Around 25 students arrived to Christiansburg High School wearing attire that violate the school's dress code. Upon entry to the school building, the students were asked to comply with the dress code. While some students complied, those who did not were placed in In-School-Suspension, the standard disciplinary procedure for this type of infraction. Around 17 students in In-School-Suspension proceeded to disrupt the school environment through loud displays and behavior. As a result of the continued disruption, the students were issued a One-Day Out-Of-School-Suspension.[6] After the initial protest, there were smaller protests that occurred.
