The following is a list of the senior heads of the McGhie name (in its variant forms) since the Middle Ages. The McGhie name is the lowland branch of Clan Mackay, an ancient Scottish family.

William M'Ghie was a merchant in Edinburgh and sold the estates of Balmaghie in 1786 to Thomas Gordon. The line after this point is not certain:
