Chan Chi (pinyin: Chén Qí; Wade–Giles: Chan Chi)(born 陳奇;1956), is a modern artist with fame in oil painting and ink painting. Chen confounded the Amphibian-Art movement in early 1990s.[1] Chen was born in Shenyang of Communist China in the midst of Great Leap Forward. After 1989, he moved to Singapore and later United States. Chen is best known for his figurative oil and ink paintings, in which he fused the western and eastern painting techniques as whole new genre.[1]
Biography
In 1989, Chen Qi and several Chinese artist including Jin Shangyi, Wu Guanzhong attended the Oil Paintings of Modern Day China exhibition which was sponsored by the art center of Department of Culture of Singapore. Chen's nude painting was hailed by art critic Tan Tee Chie as "one of those with highest art value". Chen Qi held his first solo exhibition at Singapore in 1990, which he earned sponsorship from the Art Center under the Department of Culture of Singapore.[2]。
