Chemspace is a searchable database for chemical building blocks, which allows searching for specific chemical compounds by drawing structure or providing compounds identifiers, such as CAS number, MFCD number, catalogue number, IUPAC name, InChI key, either as a text entry or by file uploading.[1]
History
Chemspace was founded by a group of chemical suppliers including Enamine Ltd, ChemBridge Corporation, UORSY and FCH Group on 1 September 2015, and officially presented in a press release on 1 March 2016.[2] In August 2016 the firm was one of the co-organizers of the 18th European Symposium on Fluorine Chemistry in Kyiv, Ukraine.[3][4]
Database
The database contains information on more than 20 million unique chemical building blocks from a number of chemical suppliers.[5] The Chemspace database of building blocks is currently covering around 80% of all available building blocks demanded in drug discovery, medicinal chemistry research, hit to lead synthesis, pharmaceutical industry and organic synthesis. There is a large diversity of chemical compounds available in Chemspace. For example, recently Chemspace was used by a group of scientists in their research as a source of knowledge about commercial availability of different classes of chemical structures. [6]
Marketplace
Chemspace is an open platform: any supplier of chemical building blocks can join and contribute to the overall database with their libraries.[7] The website supports sales, and allows listed suppliers to use it as a distribution channel. From the other side, Chemspace is a tool for the end users of chemical building blocks – pharmaceutical industry, agrochemical industry and academia to search and source organic chemicals for their research. Chemspace is an example of hybrid service combining searchable database and trading marketplace.[8]
Search capabilities
Chemspace developed proprietary approach to facilitate fast and accurate search in the world’s largest chemicals database. Searching the chemicals is possible for a broad range of properties including chemical structure, name, name fragment, chemical formula, molecular weight. The system supports structure and text searching. The structure search provides for substructure, superstructure, exact match and similarity searches. The text search can search by CAS, name, SMILES etc.). There is Import file search tool allows the import of all common chemical file formats to search structures.[9]
Suppliers
Over 40 suppliers have placed their catalogs on Chemspace platform. All customers have free access to all suppliers’ substances listed, and can contact suppliers either directly or through Chemspace.
