Chaseiro is an Indonesian jazz group formed in 1978. The group’s current line-up consists of Candra Darusman (vocal and keyboardist), Aswin Sastrowardoyo (vocal and guitar), Edwin Hutoro (flute), Irwan Indrakesuma (vocal), Rizali Indrakesuma (vocal and bass), and Norman “Omen” Sonisontani. The group member is an mix of student from University of Indonesia for Faculty of Medicine, Economics and Social Sciences.
According of Indonesian Rolling Stone, its song “Pemuda” had listed in 150 Best Indonesian Song of All Time.
Career
The group was formed in 1978 in Jakarta, after joining an vocal group competition for Radio Amigos. A year later, Musica Studios signed to Chaseiro in 1979 and releasing debut single, “Pemuda” as an single for their career in jazz music. Its song had been more popularity in Indonesia and their debut self-titled album had released.
After their successfully for debut single and album, Chaseiro returning released second studio album Bila in same of year. In 1981, the jazz group had releasing third studio album, entitled Vol. 3 by Musica Studios and producing first single for Guruh Soekarnoputra’ written song “Rio De Janeiro”.
In a year later, Chaseiro releasing their last studio album Ceria which eventually disbanded due to busyness of each member. The group had rarely performed in Indonesian music stage. In 2001, each member had return to reunion and launching the CD album, entitled Persembahan.
Although unsustainable, Chaseiro also working for their career in stages and recording. The group returning launching for 2011 compilation albums Retro which took from their previous album and still same of year, drummer Uce Hariono, who an additional player, had died in SOS Merdeka due to symptom of stroke.[1] A year later after Hariono’ death, the group had losing bass additional player Ade Hamzah due to heart attack and followed by him, vocalist Helmi Indrakesuma also had died due to same cause of Ade' death.[2]
In 2014, Chaseiro had releasing fifth studio album, entitled Retro 2 and in album had many collaboration for musician, such as Tohpati, Marcell, RAN and jazz singer Tompi.[3]
