Lieutenant-Colonel Charles Hamilton Grant Hume Harvey-Kelly DSO (1885–1982) was Military Attaché to Kabul (1924–26).[1] He was brother to H.D. Harvey-Kelly, the first RFC pilot to land in France in the First World War.
Harvey-Kelly was educated at Bedford Modern School and Sandhurst.[2] He was commissioned in 1905 and appointed to the Indian Army in 1906 where he served in East Africa (Somaliland) between 1908 and 1910. Harvey-Kelly served with the Indian Contingent at the Coronation of King George VI in 1911.[2]
During World War I he fought on the North West frontier[3] (having been ill when his unit was shipped to the Western Front). He was mentioned in despatches three times, was made a Brevet Major and was awarded the DSO in June 1919.[4][5] In 1926 Harvey-Kelly was awarded the MacGregor Memorial Medal for military reconnaissances and journeys of exploration.[2]
