The Central League was a Class C minor league baseball league that operated in the United States for part of the 1897 season.[1] The league was organized on January 18, 1897, and consisted of six teams from Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, and Tennessee.[2] Severe financial problems throughout the circuit forced the league to disband on July 20. As of July 19, the final day of play, the Nashville/Henderson Centennials were in first place with a 39–29 (.574) record, making them the de facto league champions.[2]
