The Arellano University in Pasig (Filipino: Pamantasang Arellano sa Pasig), officially as Arellano University – Andres Bonifacio Campus (abbreviated as AU-ABC), is a private, nonsectarian university located in Pasig, Philippines. It is one of the constituent universities of Arellano University and the campus was named after Andrés Bonifacio y de Castro, a Filipino nationalist and revolutionary.

The university is composed of several autonomous colleges, schools and institutes, each conferring undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate degrees, and the basic education units. The athletic teams are the Arellano Chiefs, members of the National Collegiate Athletic Association and the National Capital Region Athletic Association.

The Arellano University in Pasay (Pamantasang Arellano sa Pasay in Filipino), officially as Arellano University – José Abad Santos Campus (abbreviated as AU-JASC), is a private, nonsectarian university located in Pasay, Philippines and was one of the constituent universities of Arellano University and was established in 1945 as José Abad Santos High School.[2] The campus was named after José Abad Santos y Basco, the fifth Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines who also served as the acting President of the Philippines during World War II.

The university is composed of several autonomous colleges, schools and institutes, each conferring undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate degrees, and the basic education units. The athletic teams are the Arellano Chiefs, members of the National Collegiate Athletic Association and the National Capital Region Athletic Association.

History

The university was founded in 1945, then was known as José Abad Santos High School.[2] The university took more than four score to reach the success it has today. In 1986, the Colleges of the nearby AU – Apolinario Mabini Campus transferred to this university,[2] with the exception of the School of Law, and has since the university became one of the leading universities in Pasay.

Campus


The campus lies on an area in Pasay situated in the busy thoroughfare of Taft Avenue. Beside it lies two bus terminals and lies near at LRT-1 Gil Puyat Station. It is the first campus of Arellano University in Pasay, the other being the Mabini campus. The first structures within the campus were the Jose Abad Santos High School and the Main Building. The Annex was built in the early years after establishment to accommodate more students. The campus has a spacious quadrangle, and several well landscaped gardens. At present, it is one of the most prestigious universities within Pasay.

Administration and organization

A faculty of approximately 50 professors, lecturers, and instructors serve the university. The campus was under the supervision of the President of Arellano University and the Board of Trustees. A governing Student Council is present, organizing student activities. Schools and collegiate institutes have their own respective organization and council, governing collegiate activities.

Academics

The basic education of the university provides secondary education and was one of the well-known high school establishment within the city. The campus is the home to the José Abad Santos High School, one of the well-known high school institution within the city and was the home to over 1,400 students.

The campus lies on an area in Malabon notable for being a residential commercial hub within the city, and is bounded by some residences to the north and the Gov. Pascual Avenue to the south. The campus consists of four academic buildings and one of the well-known universities within Malabon.

The basic education of the university offers the K–12 levels. The Arellano University High School is the secondary institution of the university. The secondary institution located within the campus was the Elisa Esguerra High School, formerly as Jose Rizal High School.

The School of Hospitality and Tourism Management is the academic unit of Arellano University about the hospitality industry.

The School of Business and Commerce is the academic unit of Arellano University that educates about legally recognized organization designed to provide goods, services, or both to consumers or tertiary business in exchange for money[3] and specializes in the fields of Management, Marketing, Banking and Finance, Paralegal Studies and General Accounting.[4]

The Institute of Arts and Sciences is the academic unit of Arellano University that specializes in the academic disciplines, the arts, business and public affairs. It specializes in English,Political Science and Psychology.

The School of Education is the academic unit of Arellano University that is devoted to scholarship in the field of education.

The Arellano University in Mandaluyong (Pamantasang Arellano sa Mandaluyong in Filipino), officially as Arellano University – Plaridel Campus (abbreviated as AU-PC) is a private, nonsectarian university located in Mandaluyong, Philippines. It was established on 1950.

The university is located in a bustling area of commerce in Mandaluyong. The campus was named after the pen-name of Marcelo H. del Pilar,a leading propagandist of the Philippine Revolution.

With an estimated population of 2,000 students, it is one of the largest school in Mandaluyong with a tuition fee of an estimated of ₱20,000 ($478.60).

The university is composed of several autonomous colleges, schools and institutes, each conferring undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate degrees, and the basic education units. The athletic teams are the Arellano Chiefs, members of the National Collegiate Athletic Association and the National Capital Region Athletic Association.

History


Arellano University – Plaridel Campus started as a school known as Plaridel High School (PHS), established in January 1950 and one of the most popular high schools within the cities of Mandaluyong, San Juan and Manila.[5] The campus was named after the pen-name of Marcelo H. del Pilar, a leading propagandist during the Philippine Revolution.

In 1978, Plaridel High School became a local campus of Arellano University, one of the campuses of Arellano University offering secondary education. From then on, the campus went on a major renovation and several curriculum changes. Since its establishment, the university offers secondary education when tertiary courses were added in 2008. The university is the fifth campus of Arellano University to offer tertiary courses.[5] The campus was severely damaged during the 2009 floods and it recently held its 61st Commencement Exercises.[6]

The campus lies on an area in Mandaluyong known for being the commercial hub of the city, and is bounded by New Panaderos St. to the north and the Pasig on the south. The first structures in the campus were the Main Building, followed by the Annex Building, the athenaeum of the university. The Annex was later developed in the 1980s to accommodate more students and have better facilities. The other structure within the campus is the Quadrangle. At present, the original campus starts to develop as the Main Building was extended and a new Physical Education area was built. Renovation of the Quadrangle and upgrades of several facilities are some of the developments within the campus.

The College of Arts and Sciences is the academic unit of Arellano University that specializes Psychology,[7][5] the science of mind and behavior.

The College of Criminology is the academic unit of Arellano University for the scientific study of the nature, extent, causes, and control of criminal behavior in both the individual and in society. Criminology is an interdisciplinary field in the behavioral sciences, drawing especially upon the research of sociologists (particularly in the sociology of deviance), social anthropologists and psychologists, as well as on writings in law.

The School of Education[5] is the academic unit of Arellano University that is devoted to scholarship in the field of education. It specializes in different degrees and diplomas.[7]

The School of Hospitality and Tourism Management is the academic unit of Arellano University about the hospitality industry and offers two courses.[7]

The School of Computer Science is the academic unit of Arellano University about the study, design, development, application, implementation, support or management of computer-based information systems, particularly software applications and computer hardware[8] and offers one course.[7]

Student life

The Arellano University Chiefs (formerly the Flaming Arrows) are the official athletic team of the university and are members of the National Collegiate Athletic Association and the National Capital Region Athletic Association. The official dance troupe, the Street Knights, has won several inter-branch dance competition and later went on winning on the 2008 U.P. BEAT: Lubdub Inter-High School Street Dance Challenge.[9]

Fraternities and sororities had established chapters within the university. There are legally established organization, such as the Supreme Student Government, the governing body within the campus.

Notable people

Persons affiliated to the university, either as students, faculty members, or administrators, are known as "Arellianites". Persons affiliated to the branches of the university were named after the campus name. Throughout the university's history, faculty, alumni, and former students have played prominent roles in many different fields.
