Cameron Chalmers (born 6 February 1997) is a Guernsey born British track and field sprinter who specialises in the 400 metres. He holds a personal best of 46.51 seconds for the distance set at the 2016 IAAF World U20 Championships. He is a current Great Britain Junior athlete having competed at the 2016 U20 World Championships [1] and won Gold for Guernsey in the 400m at the 2015 Island Games in Jersey.[2] He is the current British U20 champion and also holds the BUCS title.
Chalmers is currently ranked 1st for 400m in the Great Britain U20 rankings.
Career
Born in Guernsey, he joined his local athletics club, Guernsey Island Amateur Athletic Club, in 2010. He competed in a variety of events, particularly in 2013 before focusing on 400m from 2014 onwards. [3]
In 2015 Chalmers made his first appearance for Great Britain, competing for GBJ in the 4x400m at the Loughborough International. [4] In the same year he also took the gold medals in both the 400m and 4x400m while representing Guernsey at the Island Games.
At the 2016 World U20 Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland, Chalmers set a personal best of 46.51 seconds in the semi finals, however he narrowly missed out on the finals, eventually finishing his campaign in 9th. [5]
