Biography

Ward was born in Milton, Florida and graduated from Bradford County High School in Starke, Florida. He received an undergraduate degree (international relations and political science) from Troy University and a law degree from the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University.[2] While at Troy, Ward served two terms as Student Government Association president.[2]

Ward is currently the Executive Director of the Industrial Development Board of Alabaster,[3] AL. He is chairman of the Autism Task Force of Alabama[4] and recently announced the launch of Autism Alabama, "an on-line library providing distance learning for teachers who have children on the autism spectrum."[5]

In December 2010 Ward worked to pass a key piece of legislation granting Subpoena Power to the Alabama Ethics Commission. This bill was passed by both chambers of the Alabama Legislature on December 16, 2010 and signed into law by Governor Bob Riley on December 20, 2010.

As a conservative Republican, Ward believes in limited government and opposes gun control. Ward has been active in many legislative issues over the years including the sponsorship of stronger ethics laws and pro-growth measures that reduced the amount of government regulation in the private sector. In 2011, during Ward’s first year in the Senate he and others led the passage of the most comprehensive package of tort reform measures in over a decade. In 2015, Ward was recognized nationally for his work on reforming Alabama’s criminal justice system.

In 2016, Ward was nationally recognized by the Foundation of Government Accountability with the "Friend of Government Accountability Award" for his efforts in healthcare reform.

During his time in public service Ward has been recognized by various conservative groups for his work. The Mobile Press noted in 2013 that Ward was one of the most active public officials on social media.
