Ravi Kumar C (born 1959) is an Indian former footballer. He played for Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Mohan Bengal, Mafalal, Indian Telephone Industries Limited ( ITI ) and the Indian national team primarily as a Midfield, during his 18-year career as a professional footballer.He retired from professional football in 2000. Ravi (HAL) descent who plays as a Midfield. Ravikumar is considered to be the torchbearer of Indian football . He is often nicknamed the "Super Ravi" because of his skills in football. Gowthamapuram described Ravikumar as "God's gift to football".

Childhood and early career

Ravi kumar was born in 1959 into a Tamilian family in Gowthamapuram, a locality in Bangalore Karnataka. He played cricket, football and marbles as a child. Growing up in Gowthamapuram, a locality that was named 'mini Brazil', Started playing football when he was 16.

His football career started in 1977 when he began playing for a local Bangalore club, Army Football Club, 515 . After a year with Chief Inspectorate of Electronics (CIL), he moved to Indian Telephone Industries Limited ( ITI ), Mafatlal, for four seasons, till 1984. During the time, he also represented his National Junior football Championship held in Calcutta, in the Santosh Trophy ( Senior team ), from 1980 to 1987. he got his first break in 1985, when he was called for the national selection camp in Kalamasserry for Nehru gold cup.

Career

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL)

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), who tried to sign him for Mohan Bagan during the camp in 1983. However, he was played for H.A.L from 1983 to 2000. Ravi Kumar was announced as one of the players signed on to the club for the new season. Ravi Kumar then made his debut for H.A.L in the club's very first match ever against I.T.I A.C. at the Bangalore Football Stadium in which he started and played the full match as the match ended 2–1, As Ravi nets winner. In his same season, in the game against AGORC, Ravi kumar struck the goalthat gave HASC their fifth win, He finished the season winning a unique treble with the team; the Puttaiah Trophy.

Mafatlal

Ravi kumar made a move to Mafalal having received a good offer, in 1982. In his first season with Mafatlal, he helped the team with winner of the League. In the 1983 season, he finished with 12 goals, the highest in his career in a season. In the 1983–84 season, he won his second League Cup title winners.

Mohun Bagan

Ravi Kumar made a move to Mohun Bagan in 1985. He won many trophies, during their time at Bagan. During his second spell at Bagan, Ravi kumar won the League in 1985 and 1986, and along with one Federation Cup titles.

Coaching career

On November 2005, Ravi kumar followed manager Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) to Championship side to work as first team coach. On January 2005, Ravi kumar to become a coach at Championship club I.T.I. He was sacked on 19 March 2005.

Return to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) career

It was announced that Ravi kumar had signed as head coach of H.A.L FC in the Indian 2nd Division I-League.

Ravi kumar then made his official coaching debut with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) on 22 September in his side's opening Indian 2nd Division I-League game against Indian bank A.C. at the Bangalore Football Stadium. Ravi kumar then coached H.A.L to their first ever victory in their next match against Madras Engineer Group ( MEG ) at the Bangalore Football Stadium in which goals, H.A.L won the match 3–0.

His first loss as head coach of H.A.L then occurred in the club's away game of the season against East Bengal F.C. on 26 October at the Kalyani Stadium in which an own goal and a stoppage-time goal led to the 2–0 defeat.

Ravi kumar lead National senior Santhosh Trophy to the title in their very first by beating GOA 4–2 at the Fatorda Stadium with one game to go. In doing Ravi kumar also became the U19 National junior coach.

International career

Ravi kumar made his first appearance for the Indian national team at the Nehru gold cup in Kalamasserry. He was then called up for the 1985 Asian tournament, when he scored his first goal for India, in a match against Oman, a match that India hold Oman 1–1. When the middle line of the defender Ravi kumar netted from a goalmouth scramble with a power packed shot.

Personal life

Ravi kumar married Sundari, in 1987. They have two daughter's and a son. He has been employed with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) since 1983, In Bangalore office, in the FMD department. He resides Gowthamapuram, a locality in Bangalore.
