Board of governors
A board of governors is a body of members who jointly oversee the activities of an organization, such as an nonprofit organization, analogous to a board of directors of a company.
Description
There is no consistency in the use of that title (or other titles) for the ultimate executive body for such organizations.
The designation is used in many public institutions, such as public universities and other government-owned corporations. It was used in the British Broadcasting Corporation, though the executive body is now called the BBC Trust. In the United States, the designation has been used in the United States Postal Service and the Federal Reserve System. It has also been used in the International Atomic Energy Agency.
A sports league in North America that uses this designation for its highest advisory body is the National Hockey League.
